Demi Lovato – Confident

Confident, which was released just last week, is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Demi Lovato, and it’s clear she is feeling ‘confident’ about it…

Demi started her career alongside the likes of Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, starring in various Disney Chanel TV programmes but like all Disney stars, she’s taking a turn to a more sexy, adult version of herself.

The title songs kicks off the album, showing everyone just how confident and sassy she has become. It kicks off the record with an extremely big bang and sets the bar high for the rest of the album. Cool for the Summer – the latest single from the album – and Old Ways also follow in the same footsteps, containing bold pop beats. Unfortunately that is where that all ends. For the majority of the album, Lovato goes all “Adele” on us, and decides to show of how high she can get her voice in some slower, power ballads so to speak.

In a way, Demi is still showing off how confident she is now feeling within herself, but in a different way than what most people was expecting. The album is the polar opposite to anything she has ever made before, especially her debut album ‘Don’t Forget’ which definitely swayed more towards the pop/rock genre.

If it’s Cool for the Summer that’s making you want to pick up the album, you might be disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, there are a handful songs that are similar to that sound, but most of them are slow, dreary and not that different from each other… Better luck next time, Demi!
